Grease-removal pretreatment + hydrolysis acidification + biological treatment + advanced separation — making high-load organic wastewater stably compliant and reusable
The challenge lies in "grease" and "load"
Wastewater discharged by poultry slaughtering, livestock farming, and meat and aquatic-product processing plants is a rather distinctive category of industrial wastewater: high organic concentration (COD and BOD are often several times those of domestic sewage), elevated ammonia and total nitrogen, abundant floating oil and grease, and mixed with suspended solids such as feathers, blood and offal. Water quality and volume fluctuate sharply with shifts. If fed directly into a conventional system, it easily causes problems like grease fouling of media, sludge bulking and incomplete denitrification — which is precisely why it draws close attention in environmental inspections.
For slaughter lines and farms where land is tight, traditional reinforced-concrete plants also suffer the familiar drawbacks of large footprint, long construction time and complex operation and maintenance. Can a prefabricated, grease-targeted, compliance-ready integrated unit solve this equation? HONCO's solution is designed precisely around the characteristics of slaughter and livestock wastewater.
Targeted process: remove grease first, then reduce the load
Unlike general domestic sewage, the first step for slaughter and livestock wastewater is not biodegradation but getting the oil and solids out. HONCO's integrated equipment organizes the process as: pretreatment — equalization & hydrolysis — biological treatment — advanced separation — disinfection.
1. Grease removal and screening: A mechanical bar screen intercepts feathers, offal and coarse solids, protecting downstream pumps and membranes; a matched grease trap or dissolved-air-flotation (DAF) unit separates floating oil, grease and some colloidal organics. Only when this step is clean will the subsequent bioprocess avoid being "clogged by oil."
2. Equalization + hydrolysis acidification: The equalization tank levels out peaks and troughs in flow and load; the hydrolysis-acidification stage breaks the large organic molecules typical of slaughter wastewater into smaller, more readily biodegradable forms, improving biodegradability and markedly lowering the load on the downstream aerobic stage.
3. Biological treatment (carbon removal, denitrification, phosphorus removal): The core uses the AAO (anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic) process or biological contact oxidation to efficiently remove COD and ammonia nitrogen, and through recirculation and sludge discharge achieves coordinated nitrogen and phosphorus removal, keeping total nitrogen and total phosphorus stably within discharge limits.
4. Advanced separation and disinfection: A secondary clarifier (or MBR tank) performs solid-liquid separation, ensuring suspended solids (SS) and grease meet standards; the clear water is disinfected with sodium hypochlorite or UV before discharge, or can be reused by grade for plant washing, road dust suppression and greening.
5. Sludge handling: Excess sludge is thickened and dewatered before off-site disposal to avoid secondary pollution.
Why integrated equipment rather than cast-in-place tanks
For slaughter and livestock scenarios, HONCO integrates the whole process into a standard tank — factory-prefabricated, pressure-tested, and put into operation after on-site lifting and piping. Compared with traditional civil works, its value comes down to three points:
1. Small footprint, can be buried: The tank can be fully buried underground; only access openings and vent pipes remain above ground, with greening or access paths on top — ideal for already-built slaughter halls and farms with no spare land.
2. Short schedule, fast deployment: After factory prefabrication, only a pit and a foundation are needed on site; lifting into place typically takes 1–3 days, and commissioning (including biomass cultivation) takes about 7–15 days — far faster than cast-in-place works that take months.
3. Simple O&M, visible data: PLC automatically controls level, dissolved oxygen, air volume and pre-treatment dosing; key operating data are viewable on the control panel or a mobile terminal, with remote guidance and periodic inspection supported. Daily work is mainly "watch the data, dose, and clean periodically."
| Comparison | Traditional cast-in-place plant | HONCO integrated equipment (slaughter/livestock) |
|---|---|---|
| Footprint | Large (tanks + equipment room + access) | Compact, can be fully buried |
| Schedule | Months (excavation, pouring, curing) | Lifting 1–3 days, commissioning 7–15 days |
| Grease pretreatment | Designed separately | Screen + grease trap/DAF integrated |
| Load fluctuation | Manual adjustment | Equalization tank + automatic control first |
| O&M | Experience-dependent, many drawings | PLC auto-control, remotely viewable |
Typical application scenarios
The solution suits organic-wastewater projects from a few to several hundred m³/day. Typical scenarios include: poultry and swine slaughter lines, cattle/sheep and livestock farms, meat and aquatic processing plants, centralized wastewater in food industrial parks, and upgrade/retrofit of slaughter-processing enterprises. Clients only need to provide three basics — daily flow, influent quality (COD/ammonia/grease) and the effluent discharge standard — to receive a targeted tank configuration and process combination.
Delivery and service
Standard-configuration prefabrication typically takes 25–45 days (by specification); the equipment is fitted with a dual power supply or diesel-generator interface, and key units can connect to emergency power to handle the continuous-discharge duty of slaughter lines. HONCO reverse-engineers process parameters from the client's given discharge standard, providing full-process service from water analysis, configuration design, installation guidance to O&M support, and can specify grease-removal efficiency, effluent indicators and maintenance requirements in the technical appendix.
Conclusion
The difficulty in slaughter and livestock wastewater treatment is not "whether a process exists" but "whether the process fits" — remove grease first, then reduce the load, then stabilize nitrogen and phosphorus removal, so that high-grease, high-ammonia wastewater is truly cleaned. With its combination of "targeted pretreatment + integrated bioprocess + advanced separation," HONCO integrated sewage treatment equipment offers a pragmatic choice with small footprint, short schedule and stable effluent.
